In twenty or thirty years, maybe we’ll all be sitting around and laughing that we used to say that getting away from technology is essential and that we need to prioritize it.
Many people argue that we used to say the same thing about television, radio and even the printed word. They said that when each new technology arrives, that everyone was up in arms and trying to resist those things. Then we fast forward and we are all laughing at ourselves that we used to be so worried about books, or radio or even at this point in time, television.
So my hope is that we will say the same thing about smartphones, social media, video games and AI in 20 plus years.
But on the off chance that that doesn’t happen, see how slow your hike is tomorrow. Leave your phone at home (or turned off in the bottom of your bag). Look at the clouds and watch them change shape. Stare at a pine cone for 10 minutes.
Go slow.
